PORT LINCOLN    FLY REX AIRLINES

The town is located at the southern end of the Eyre Peninsula, around 660kms from Adelaide. It was named Map of Australia, State of South Australia and Port Lincoln after Matthew Flinders' home county of Lincolnshire, and is considered South Australia's finest and busiest harbour.

The town is home to Australia's largest commercial fishing fleet, worth $40 million to $50 million annually, so it's no wonder that the seafood tastes great here.

Only fears over a secure fresh water supply swayed Colonel William Light from choosing Adelaide rather than Port Lincoln as the site of South Australia's capital in 1836. But Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula has developed into a thriving provincial city set on a magnificent natural harbour. Sparkling blue Boston Bay covers an area three and a half times larger than Sydney Harbour and its waters are protected by Boston Island. Tours operate to Boston Island, first inhabited around 1840.

Port Lincoln has an important grain-loading facility, as well as loading Port Lincorn Lions bannerette facilities for other agricultural produce. It also has a successful fishing industry, including tuna farms for the lucrative Japanese market. The calm waters of Boston Bay are perfect for watersports while the Sir Joseph Banks islands to the north-east and Thorny Passage to the south give off-shore anglers and blue water sailors a wide range of recreational options. Beach lovers can find sheltered and surf beaches and secluded picnic spots.

Other attraction of our wonderful home are as below:

  • Port Lincoln is a world class City of Industry & Festivals. It is the Seafood capital of the world.

  • The harbor is famous for World & South Australian yachting events including The Blue Water Classic.
Port Lincoln doubles in population in January each year for the festivities of Tunarama, which is a festival of parades, floats, beauty queens & the famous World Tuna Toss.

  • The Tuna Fleet is involved with a sail past & a blessing of their fleet by the Bishop.
Port Lincoln also offers The Parnkarla Walking Trial, Wildlife Activity in the National Parks, visits to the Tuna farms in the bay, & see the famous White Pointer Shark (face to face in a cage) boat tours arranged.

  • The foreshore is a nonstop party time for everybody including family interaction with children.

Accommodation is in abundance including The Lions Hostel at North Shields, this is now a magnificent land mark 5 kilometers The Lions Hostel in Port Lincoln - See below to book accomodation north of Port Lincoln. The Port Lincoln Lions Club is extremely grateful to Darwin Nightcliff Lions Club for their ongoing and generous support in organising an original and genuine Aboriginal painting as a gift for the Lions Hostel at North Shields.

The Darwin Nightcliff Lions Club earlier donated a considerable amount to the Rebuild Program following the devastating Eyre Peninsula Bush Fires.

Artist Gary Aaron Albert comes from Katherine Duck Creek also known as Djembere.  It is a personal gift to all Lions members & a unique story of 'Galwin'    The treasure will be displayed at the Lions Hostel

TRUE BLUE AUSSIE

Lions Code of Ethics

  • To Show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service.
  • To Seek success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my own self-respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part.
  • To Remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself.
  • Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubts against myself.
  • To Hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.
  • Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state, and my community, as to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act, and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means.
  • To Aid others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.
  • To Be Careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy
